- Hendrik van der Marcke, the founder and first Duke of Westport, was a man who could win wars with his bow and end them with his tongue. A bridge-builder in every sense, he forged peace between rival tribes and built the first great city of the western delta — Nieuwbrugg, “The New Bridge.”
- Alaric VII van der Marcke, known as the Pragmatist Duke, restored his house to prominence through wit and commerce during an age of religious strife. While others called him heretic, merchants named him savior.
- Lambert van der Marcke, the current Duke, rules with restraint and calculation, maintaining peace through neutrality — a stance some call wisdom, and others cowardice.
Their banner bears a blue rooster upon a field of gold — a symbol of vigilance, pride, and unbroken dawn. It has flown above Nieuwbrugg’s harbor for generations, a reminder that while others built walls, the van der Marckes built bridges — and watched the sun rise over both shores.
